The restoration of a natural lowland peatland environment on the Somerset Levels is a priority for the Somerset Wildlife Trust and a project of national significance. The Trust’s work on the Levels was showcased to the Lord Lieutenant and a group of deputies during a visit to the Honeygar Farm restoration project near Westhay in the heart of the internationally renowned Avalon Marshes. Georgia Stokes, Chief Executive, and Michael Woodman led for SWT. The full Lieutenancy team also included Robbie Drewett, Denis Burn and Colin Drummond. Once a dairy farm, Honeygar was bought by the Trust in 2018 to become a hub for the study and regeneration of damaged peatland. The Lord Lieutenant thanked the Trust for their work and their commitment to the future of this unique part of Somerset.
